Ticket Alert - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Modified by Dean in Seattle on July 31, 2008, at 11:02 am (Presales)

Three times in one year for lucky Seattle: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club returns to the downtown Showbox after a sold-out show just a few months back. Unknown who’ll be drumming this time round (the original drummer can’t rehab), but hopefully it’ll be Leah Shapiro, recently seen at Neumo’s with The Raveonettes. Password: SHOWBOX

Ticket Alert - Goldfrapp

Modified by Dean in Seattle on July 25, 2008, at 9:00 am (Presales)

A genre switch away from electro glam for Alison Goldfrapp and her band: folky psychedelic. Check them out at that *other* Showbox this autumn … sounds like the sound will match the season.

Search Rankings

Modified by Dean in Seattle on July 10, 2008, at 10:35 pm (Meta)

Since this is a slow week, presale-wise, let’s take a look over at Google Analytics and see what they have to say about how you ended up here in the second quarter of 2008:

1) Radiohead (11% of searches)
2) Weezer (4% of searches)
3) Sasquatch: R.E.M. / The Cure
4) Judas Priest
5) Stevie Wonder
6) Duran Duran
7) Tom Petty / Steve Winwood
8) Summer Camp: Flogging Molly / Nada Surf / MGMT / Armor For Sleep
9) Motley Crue
10) Jack Johnson
11) The Dandy Warhols
12) Willie Nelson
13) New Kids On The Block
14) Mayhem Festival: Slipknot / Disturbed
15) Endfest
16) My Morning Jacket
17) Boston / Styx
18) Sigur Ros
19) Journey / Heart / Cheap Trick
20) The Police / Elvis Costello
21) Neil Diamond

A few random thoughts:

**Radiohead is the most popular band in Seattle.

**When Weezer actually schedules a concert here, it’s gonna be big.

**The surprise hit so far this year was definitely Duran Duran, and a number of classic touring workhorses still perform well in indie Seattle.

**Further down the list than expected, and I wouldn’t want to be the promoters right now for: The Beach Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Dave Matthews, and George Michael.

**Virtually all of the traffic looking for Sub Pop 20 is coming this way via “Flight of the Conchords.” If that’s who you’re planning to see on sold-out Saturday (and you are), plan ahead. Good luck!

Local independent superlabel Sub Pop Records has been going out of business since 1988, and its year-long anniversary celebration is culminating with a two-day lineup of Sub Pop’s groundbreaking artists. As if that isn’t enough, all proceeds are being donated to charity. Nope, I don’t know why The Shins aren’t booked. Okay, read on..

“Sub Pop would not have been Sub Pop without Seattle,” Poneman says. “Seattle is an essential component to the story. Sub Pop is less geographical [now] - it has less of a regional focus. But Seattle is still home - I can complain about the irresponsible development going on downtown, I can complain about the traffic and real-estate prices, but it’s still my home. And I think I can speak for Sub Pop: The people living in Seattle have always been very supportive of Sub Pop.” — Seattle Times

Class A Face-melting, Stomach-churning, Palm-sweating, Loin-tingling Two Day Music Candystore Assault That’s Not Bumbershoot or Sasquatch. — Northwest Music Blog

20 years ago this month, Sub Pop Records’ Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman threw caution (and their dayjobs) to the wind and rented an office in Seattle’s Terminal Sales Building. Two decades on, that little Pacific Nortwestern upstart has become an indie juggernaut. — Pitchfork

Modified by Dean in Seattle on June 27, 2008, at 10:45 am (Presales)

It will be the first ever major concert at the 54,000-capacity Safeco Field, and unfortunately the presale is limited to Mariners season ticket holders. It’s hard to keep up with the lawsuits and the name changes and the crazy of The Beach Boys, but hit Ticketmaster at 10 on Tuesday because this show will be a must-see nonetheless.

Yes Cancels Summer Tour

Modified by Dean in Seattle on June 6, 2008, at 9:58 am (Upcoming)

yes.jpgWayback English prog-rockers Yes has cancelled their WaMu stop on August 15. In fact, the whole 40th-Anniversary summer tour has been cancelled, due to lead singer Jon Anderson’s case of acute respiratory failure. Normally such an announcement is PR-speak for poor ticket sales, but I have a feeling this is the real deal. Get well and come back soon.
